Long Weekend Getaway in Bantayan Island

By kweneeeta - 6:30 PM

From North Bus Terminal, we took Sugbo Transit Bus to Hagnaya Port. There's no need to book in advance as there are a lot of buses running from NBT to Hagnaya Port. We left the terminal at around 8:00am and after 4 1/2 hours and 2 stops (Carmen and Bogo), we arrived at Hagnaya Port. There are only 2 RORO companies operating Hagnaya-Sta Fe trip--Island Shipping and Super Shuttle. We took the 12:30pm Super Shuttle trip. To our dismay, the RORO was poorly maintained. You can smell the toilet from meters away. No air-conditioned accommodation. It was really horrible. Good thing the trip only took 1 1/2 hour. We barely managed to survive. Argh!

We arrived at Sta. Fe Port around 1:30pm. Upon alighting the RORO you have to walk about 300 meters to their arrival lounge where you'll be asked to register and pay Php30.00 as ecological fee. From there, you can hail a tricycle which can take you to your accommodations for Php20.00/head.

After a 5-minute trip, we arrived at Beach Placid Resort. I was able to book a quadruple room for only Php3,970.00! The resort was great--with very nice beachfront, good food, and friendly staff. You can also get FREE pick up and send off to and from the port.

Sightseeing proper started on our second day. We hired a tricycle for Php200.00/head to take us to the tourist spots in the island. Our fist stop was the Mangrove Garden which was one of the shooting location for the movie Camp Sawi.

Next stop was 'The Ruins' which was also a shooting location of Camp Sawi. This spot is famous for cliff jumping.

After The Ruins, we headed to the famous Kota Beach where the sandbar can be found. Then we headed next to Ogtong Cave which is inside Ogtong Cave Resort. You have to pay Php200.00/head as entrance fee. Upon payment, you are allowed to use the resort's amenities like swimming pool, Ogtong Cave, showers, etc.

Our final stop was Paradise Beach. The trip to he hidden beach was a bit long and bumpy. Honestly, I wasn't impressed by the beach. It was too rocky for me. Or maybe it was just that it was Habagat season and so the beach was not at its finest.
